Women’s Tennis Downs Sarah Lawrence, Improves to 3-0
Patchogue, NY| The St, Joseph's College (L.I.) women's tennis team surged to an 8-1 victory over Sarah Lawrence College in a Skyline Conference contest on Thursday evening.
With the win, the Golden Eagles extend their undefeated season and improve to 3-0 overall and in conference play as the Gryphons slip to 1-3.
SJC claimed victory in all three doubles matches: 8-4 at first singles (Jessica Jones and Mackenzie Martocci), 8-0 at second doubles (Joan Dabalsky and Erin Hickey), and 8-7 at third doubles (Haley Celona and Trinity Behlen).
Jones would go on to secure a thrilling three-set victory at first singles. The junior transfer rallied for a tie-breaking 7-6 win in set two after dropping the first set 6-7 and went on to win 10-5 in the match tiebreaker.
Martocci was perfect (6-0, 6-0) in her third singles match and Hickey also secured a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-2, at fifth singles.
Celona (6-4, 3-6, 1-0) and Behlen (1-6, 6-4, 1-0) secured wins at fourth and sixth singles, respectively.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 24 when they visit SUNY Purchase for a Skyline Conference contest at 11:00 am.
