SJC Golf Team Hosts 2013 LI Intercollegiate Tournament

Sayville, N. Y. - The LI Intercollegiate Golf Championship was hosted by the St Joseph's College men's golf team at the Island Hill Country Club on Thursday and Friday under course and weather conditions that were absolutely perfect and saw Dowling College emerge as this year's champion.

Individual honors went to Dowling's Anthony Corsi who posted a two day score of 142 (70-72) total to fellow teammate Kurt Brey's 145 (70-75).

At the conclusion of round one on Thursday, Dowling led after shooting an outstanding team score of 293.  Their #1 & #2 players, Brey and Corsi, were tied for the individual honors with outstanding scores of one under par 70.

Brey and Corsi dueled in a playoff in last year's tournament resulting in Brey receiving medalist honors.

Farmingdale State placed second on day one with a score of 305; followed by Suffolk Community College at 307.

The second day of competition was equally exciting with players matching key putts to stay close.  At the end of the day, Dowling prevailed as they posted a team score of 300 - winning its fourth consecutive team title and fifth out of the eight tournaments since the revitalization of the LI Intercollegiate Tournament in 2006.  The Golden Lions two day total of 593 was 17 strokes better than second place Farmingdale State (305,305 = 610).

St Joseph's outstanding freshman, Christian Bleck, posted a fine two day score of 151 (77, 74) and tied for an impressive third place finish among the 35 competing players  as he participated in the event for the first time.
