Men’s Lacrosse Holds off Dominican on Senior Day

Patchogue, NY| Senior Matt Prokesch scored five times as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team (5-4) earned an 11-7 Senior Day win over Division II Dominican College (1-8) on Wednesday evening.

Prokesch added a helper and was credited with seven shots and three ground balls in the contest. Fellow senior Casey Hickey contributed two goals and one assist, and sophomore Matthew Fernandez went for one goal and one assist.

Sophomore goaltender Adam Sivon (5-3) made six saves on eight shots, and sophomore Andrew Yoli made two saves in the fourth quarter.

Prokesch opened the scoring 9:55 into the contest and assisted on sophomore Chris Nielsen's tally less than 20 seconds later (2-0).

After taking a 5-0 lead into the second quarter, Prokesch extended the hosts' lead to seven goals with two tallies inside the second frame's first 1:30.

At 7:44 of the third quarter, Fernandez's mark put SJC up nine goals (10-1), but a 4-0 run by Dominican over the next 16 minutes brought the game back to within five (10-5).

Hickey ended the Chargers' streak with 3:19 to play in regulation (11-5), and a pair of Dominican tallies in the game's final moments wrapped the scoring (11-7).

In addition to holding a 41-23 advantage in shots, SJC also collected more ground balls (40-25) and won more faceoffs (18-4) than its opponent.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, April 6 when they head up to Newburgh, NY to face Mount St. Mary College in a Skyline Conference clash at 7:00 pm.
