Men’s Lacrosse Stumbles at Stockton

Galloway, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was handed a 17-7 road defeat by Stockton University on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Eagles slip to 6-5 overall on the year with the loss as the Ospreys improve to 9-3.

Headlining an SJC offense that was outshot 56-25 in the contest was senior Casey Hickey, who scored twice and dished out a pair of assists.

Sophomore Chris Nielsen went for two goals and an assist and sophomore Zak Jones was credited with two assists.

Freshman keeper Adam Sivon (6-5) made seven saves and allowed nine goals in 30 minutes of action. Sophomore Ryan Wheeler made 10 saves in the second half.

Sophomore Declan Canevari went 13-for-21 on faceoffs and scooped up seven ground balls.

Managing only three goals to Stockton's nine in the first half, SJC was outscored 5-0 in the third quarter and faced an 11-goal deficit at the start of the fourth.

Senior Matt Prokesch, Hickey, Nielsen and senior Jack Murray all tallied in a final frame that saw the guests outscore the Ospreys 4-3, but at the final buzzer it was a 10-goal deficit.

Despite being outshot, SJC won 15 faceoffs to Stockton's 11 and saw considerable success on man-up opportunities, going 3-for-4 in the contest.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, April 20 when they visit Kean University for a non-conference contest at 5:00 pm.
