Eagles Land in First Place with Victory over Sage

Glenmont, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College men's soccer team (8-8, 6-1 Skyline) moved into first place Saturday with a 2-0 victory over the Gators of Sage (12-2, 6-1 Skyline). The win is the second in a row for the Eagles and the fifth against a conference opponent.

It took 34 minutes, but St. Joseph's got on the board with an unassisted goal by senior John Dettori (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore). The goal was number twelve on the season for Dettori, who is second in the conference in both goals per game and points per game.

Senior Brendan O'Brien (Mount Sinai, N.Y. / Mount Sinai) added an insurance goal from Gaetano Innamorato (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon) in the second half, to help seal the win for the Eagles.

The St. Joseph's defense was too overwhelming for the Gators and only allowed four shots on goal as senior Chris Muhs (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon) recorded his eighth win and sixth shutout of the season.

The next game for the Golden Eagles is Tuesday on the road at the Pioneers of William Paterson University (5-6-1). Last season the Pioneers defeated St. Joseph's, 2-0, which snapped a seven game winning streak.
