Men's Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches at Vassar

Poughkeepsie, NY| The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball team (3-3) dropped a pair of non-conference contests Saturday evening.  The Golden Eagles fell to top-ranked Springfield College (9-1) 3-0 before coming up short to #14 Vasser College (6-3) 3-1.

SJC-0, Springfield-3

The Pride opened up the match hitting .429 as a team cruising to an early 1-0 advantage with a 25-12 win in set one.  A tightly played second set saw the Golden leading 22-19, but Springfield rattled off the final six points coming back for a 25-22 win.  The Pride completed the sweep taking the final set 25-19.

Sophomore Will Flohr paced the Golden Eagles with 10 kills with sophomore Paul Curaro pitching in with six kills.  Senior Tyler Jones tossed 24 assists while collecting seven digs and assisting on two blocks.

SJC-1, Vasser-3

A closely played set one never saw either side leading by more than four.  SJC fell behind late, 23-20, but back-to-back kills form Curaro and another from sophomore Matthew Amberge knotted the score at 23.  Vasser went up 24-23 but was unable to close out the set with the Golden Eagles claiming the final three points and the 26-24 win.  The Brewers answered back taking the next three sets, 25-15, 25-17, and 25-15.

Amberge finished with a team-high 10 kills.  Curaro added nine kills with 10 digs.  Jones came away with 25 assists with Flohr recording 12 digs.

The Golden Eagles return to the Danzi Center Sunday, Feb. 4 when they host John Jay College.  Game time is slated for 12:00 pm.
