Men's Volleyball Begins Skyline Play with a Pair of Wins

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball team opened Skyline Conference play with a pair of sweeps over Purchase College and Yeshiva University Sunday afternoon in the Danzi Center.

The Golden Eagles (11-6, 2-0 Skyline) held the Panthers (2-5, 0-1 Skyline)  to single digits in sets one and two, 25-9, 25-8, before completing the shutout with a 25-12 win the third set.

Sophomore Paul Curaro led SJC with seven kills and a .600 hitting percentage. Sophomores Matthew Amberge and Kyle Biggers provided five kills apiece. Senior setter Tyler Jones tossed a match-high 19 assists and sophomore Michael Barfield picked up a match-high seven digs.

The Panthers were led by Luke Kubisch with two kills and two digs. Griffin Rapp, Christian Colon, and Chris Williams all added a kill apiece. Williams recorded a team-high five digs.

Yeshiva-0 SJC-3

The Golden Eagles picked up where they left off in the second match of the day taking care of Yeshiva University (1-9, 0-3 Skyline) 27-7, 25-9 and 25-9. SJC posted a team hitting percentage of .495 for the match and claimed 24 service aces.

This time it was Amberge with a match-high seven kills. The sophomore added five service aces, five digs and assisted on a block. Biggers recorded six kills hitting at a .857 clip. Jones tallied 16 assists and a led all players with six service aces.

The Maccabees were led by Amitai Miller with two kills and two assists. Ariel Boutehsaz finished with five assists and two digs.

The Golden Eagles return to action when they travel to Baruch College on Thursday, March 8. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
