Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Both Finish Third at LIU Post Invitational

Brookville, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's and women's cross country teams turned in strong showings at the LIU Post Invitational Saturday morning, finishing third in their respective races. The men's 8k race featured 13 schools, while the women's 5k event included 14 Division II, III and junior college squads.

Senior and last week's Skyline Conference Runner of the Week Brittany Guttieri led the women's team with a 15th-place finish with a time of 20:27.27. Finishing right behind her in 16th was senior Samantha Maurice, who turned in a 20:38.64 time.

Finishing 21st and 22nd were senior Katie Scharrenbroich and junior Megan Lavery, who clocked in with times of 20:56.07 and 20:57.76, respectively. Erin MacDonell and Kelly Roberts placed 24th and 25th.

In the men's race, back-to-back Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week Ryan Haun finished a team-high 10th place with a time of 27:53.68 in the first 8k race of his career. Finishing behind him in 16th place was sophomore Nick Morfesi who clocked in at 28:17.08.

Other notables were senior Michael LoSchiavo who placed 19th with a time of 28:34.59 and Nick Diaz who finished 26th, clocking in at 29:17.07.

In a field that consisted mostly of Division II programs, St. Joseph's was the top finisher amongst the Division III programs in both the men's and women's races.

The Golden Eagles are next in action on Saturday, October 3 when they participate in the Mt. St. Mary Invitational which will be held at Hudson Valley Sports Dome in Milton, NY. The women start at 11:00 AM and the men at 11:45.
