Women’s Cross Country Finishes First, Men Fourth at CCNY Classic

Bronx, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's and men's cross country teams finished first and fourth, respectively, at the CCNY Cross Country Classic held at Van Cortland Park in the Bronx on Sunday afternoon. For the women, it was their second-straight first-place finish, having placed first in the Mount Saint Mary Invitational last week.

Seniors Samantha Maurice (24:29.2), Brittany Guttieri (24:34.1) and Katie Scharrenbroich (24:54.4) powered the women with fourth, fifth and sixth place finishes in the 6k race.

Reigning ECAC Metro Region Rookie of the Week Erin MacDonell (25:18.0) claimed her second-straight top-10 finish, squeaking in at 10th, while Megan Lavery's (25:21.0) 11th-place finish rounded out the Golden Eagle's top-five.

Michael LoSchiavo (29:13.6) and Nick Morfesi (29:30.7) earned sixth and seventh place finishes in a strong showing for the men. Four-time Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week Ryan Haun (30:07.6) captured 12th in the men's 8k race, and John Suchopar (32:45.) took 49th.

Both the women and the men will return to action on Saturday, October 17, when they host the annual St. Joseph's Invitational. The event will be held at Sunken Meadow State Park in Kings Park, NY.
