Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team took both ends of a non-conference doubleheader, 7-0 and 12-4, against Hunter College at home on Wednesday afternoon and improved to 10-6 (2-2 Skyline) on the season. Hunter, meanwhile, slid to 4-10.

Game 1: SJC 7, Hunter 0

Elizabeth Rohme put the Golden Eagles on the board in the bottom of the second inning when her RBI single scored Madeline Sganga from second base. In the third, Mallory McClafferty used an RBI single to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 advantage before Megan Leun knocked in two more runs (4-0) with her fifth double of the year.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jillian McFadzen scored Nicole Pitta with a single to left field, and the shortstop would advance home with the next at bat after Kristin Arbiter singled through the left side. Immediately after, Gabrielle Cinquemani singled, and after advancing to third Arbiter scored (7-0) following an error by the Hunter left fielder.

Lauren Buturla (4 K's, 4 hits) kept Hunter scoreless in the final three innings en route to her third victory of the season. Sara Beck (2-4) took the loss in a 3.1 inning effort.

McFadzen went a team-best 3-4 and recorded her sixth triple of the season (tied second in the country). Leun was 1-3 with two RBI's.

Game 2: SJC 12, Hunter 4

Hunter struck first in the top of the first, putting up a three spot, but the Golden Eagles responded immediately, scoring five runs in the bottom half of the inning. After Arbiter scored Lindsey Corriss with an RBI single, Leun's double knotted the game up. Later, Rohme singled through the left side and sent home Sganga and Leun to give the hosts a 5-3 advantage. Sganga would later score Cinquemani in the bottom of the third to extend SJC's lead to three runs (6-3).

In the bottom of the fifth, McClafferty produced a two-RBI single to third (8-3) before advancing home on a wild pitch during the next at-bat to establish a 9-3 edge for SJC. Rohme would then score Sganga with a single up the middle (10-3).

After Hunter put up a run in the top of the sixth, Rohme scored both Leun and McClafferty to effectively end the game and earn SJC the 12-4 victory.

Sandra Foster (2-2) struck out a season-best 10 batters and allowed two earned runs in the win. Erika Colangelo (2-4) took the loss for Hunter, striking out two and allowing nine runs in 4.0 innings.

Rohme was 3-4 in the contest and collected a career-best five RBI's. Arbiter (2-4, 1 RBI), McClafferty (2-3, 2 RBI's, 2 runs) and Leun (2-4, 2 RBI's, 2 runs) all turned in impressive offensive performances as well.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 2 when they host Sarah Lawrence for a Skyline Conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM. Live stats will be available for both contests here.
