Wayne, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team suffered a pair of losses, 6-2 and 5-1, and was swept at the hands of William Paterson in a non-conference doubleheader played in Wayne, NJ on Thursday afternoon. With the losses, the Golden Eagles fall to 14-10 on the year as the Pioneers improve to 21-5.

Game 1: Paterson 6, SJC 2

After a scoreless first inning, the Pioneers took the lead in the bottom of the second when Tracy Geller's ground out to third scored Karley Jo Greulich. With no response by SJC in the top of the third, Paterson padded its lead with two more runs in the bottom half of the inning (Kim Fryer and Kaitlyn Poretti scored after Greulich readed first on a fielding error) to build a 3-0 advantage.

The Golden Eagles struck back in the top of the fourth and cut the deficit to one run (3-2) after Gabrielle Cinquemani's double to right center scored both Mallory McClafferty and Kristen Arbiter. For the third baseman it was her 18th and 19th RBI's of the year (third on the team).

A two-run fifth for the Pioneers reestablished their three-run lead (5-2) before Eleni Lutas' RBI single in the bottom of the sixth (6-2) wrapped the game's scoring.

Lauren Buturla (5-4) took the loss for the Golden Eagles in what was a two strikeout outing for the sophomore. Allison Podmajersky (14-2) struck out 12 SJC batters and was credited with the win for the hosts.

Leading on offense for the Golden Eagles were McClafferty (2-3, 1 run) and Lindsey Corriss (2-4), who were the only SJC players who recorded multiple hits.

Game 2: Paterson 5, SJC 1

The Pioneers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first courtesy of Rachel Wasilak's solo shot to center, and later, in the third inning, Paterson would double its lead when Lutas scored after Poretti reached on a fielding error.

Two more scores for the Pioneers in the fourth increased the Golden Eagles' deficit to four runs (4-0), but Corriss' sac fly that scored Ciquemani in the top of the fifth and made it a three-run game (4-1).

Paterson's Kelsey Wimmershoff singled to center and scored Greulich to put the Pioneers back up four runs (5-1) in the sixth and, after no response from SJC in the seventh, that's how it would end.

Sandra Foster (2-3) pitched the game's entirety for the guests and fanned four batters in the process. Gabrielle Castelli (7-3) struck out 11 in a winning effort for the Pioneers.

Strong at the plate for SJC was Jillian McFadzen and Foster, who both went 2-3.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 16 when they host Farmingdale State for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 12:00 and 2:00 PM. Live stats for both games will be available here.
