Softball Swept by William Paterson on Wednesday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team was handed a pair of losses, 9-2 and 3-0, by William Paterson University in a non-conference doubleheader at the SJC Softball Stadium on Wednesday evening.

With the losses the Golden Eagles slip to 12-10 on the year as the Pioneers improve to 18-6.

Paterson 9, SJC 2

Falling behind early, the Golden Eagles surrendered five runs in the first inning and three in the second before holding the Pioneers in the third.

Paterson extended its lead to 9-0 in the top of the fourth before SJC got on the board when Valeria Scura (1-for-3) scored Sandra Foster (2-for-3) with a groundout to short. Later in the inning, Ashley Accardi (1-for-1) cut the St. Joseph's deficit to seven runs (9-2) with a single up the middle that scored Kathryn Kamalic (0-for-1).

Lauren Buturla (3-5) failed to make it out of the first inning and allowed five hits and five runs. Nicole Baron (3.1 innings) and Ashley Blydenburgh (3.0 innings) provided relief efforts.

Paterson 3, SJC 0

Scoreless after two, Paterson broke the ice in the top of the third when Christine Griffith (0-for-2) scored Alex Grubiak (2-for-3) with a sac fly.

Grubiak doubled the guests' lead in the top of the fourth when her single up the middle sent Kim Fryer (1-for-3) home, and Nicole Fryer (1-for-3) wrapped the evening's scoring with an RBI single in the top of the seventh.

Blydenburgh (0-1) took the loss for SJC in a contest that saw her side limited to only three hits.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, April 13 when they host the College of Mount St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 12:00 pm. Live stats for both games will be available here.
