Written by Andrew Capitelli (SJC-LI Sports Information)

Patchogue, NY| After dropping a 7-0 decision in game one, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team earned a 9-4 come-from-behind victory in game two to salvage a split with the Stevens Institute of Technology at home on Wednesday.

With the split the Golden Eagles move to 15-13 on the year and the Ducks to 20-14.

Stevens 7, SJC 0

Scoreless until the fourth, Stevens posted five runs in the top half of the inning before adding another in the fifth.

The Ducks' last run would come in the top of the seventh when Emily Sellitti's double to right center scored Farryl Groder.

Theresa Cardello (8-3) allowed four earned runs in 3.0 innings and took the loss for the Golden Eagles. Nicole Baron (3.0 innings) and Sandra Foster (1.0 innings) provided relief efforts.

Elizabeth Rohme (1-for-3) was the only SJC player to record a hit in the loss.

SJC 9, Stevens 4

Stevens jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first and it would take until the fourth inning for the Golden Eagles to respond when Ashley Steponaitis (1-for-2) scored Madeline Sganga (2-for-3) with a sac fly to tie the score at one.

Three runs in the top of the fifth saw the Ducks go up 4-1, but SJC answered with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to build a 7-4 advantage. Valeria Scura (1-for-3) got the rally started with an RBI triple to right center, and Foster's (0-for-3) fielder's choice--which allowed Kristen Arbiter to score on an error by the third baseman-- capped the inning's scoring.

Lyndsay Smocer's (2-for-4) two-RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth tacked on two more runs for SJC, who rode out the 9-4 victory.

Lauren Buturla started the game for St. Joseph's but it was Foster (3-2) who struck out four batters in the 3.0 innings of work that was credited with the win.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, April 21 when they host St. Joseph's College (Brkln) in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 5:30 pm. Live stats for both games will be available here.
