Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team was handed a pair of defeats at the hands of first-place Mount Saint Mary College, 4-1 and 3-1, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

With the losses the Golden Eagles move to 15-15 on the year and 10-4 in conference play, good enough for third place in the Skyline standings. The Knights remain atop the conference standings and improve to 21-12 (14-1) on the year.

The Knights took the lead in the top of the third when Cindy Connoly scored Shannon Sommer with an RBI single, and later, in the top of the fifth, Mt. St. Mary made it a three-run game (3-0).

Failing to record a hit until the bottom of the seventh, SJC finally got on the board after Lyndsay Smocer (1-for-3) scored Madeline Sganga (0-for-2) with an RBI single to right center (3-1), but it would be the only offense the hosts would muster in the defeat.

Theresa Cardello (8-4) struck out two batters in 4.2 innings and took the loss for SJC. Sandra Foster recorded one strikeout in 2.1 innings of relief work.

Mary's opened the first inning with a pair of runs, but SJC responded in the bottom of the second when Gabrielle Cinquemani (3-for-3) scored Sandra Foster (1-for-2) with an RBI single to right to cut the deficit in half (2-1).

Breanna DePasquale's RBI single in the top of the fourth reestablished the guests' two-run lead (3-1) and later, in the top of the fifth, Kathryn Eiler's RBI single up the middle extended the Knight's lead to three runs en route to a 4-1 victory.

Foster (3-3) took the loss for SJC in a 4.0-inning, three-strikeout effort. Lauren Buturla fanned one batter and allowed one run in 3.0 innings of relief.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, April 27 when they host St. Joseph's College (Brkln) in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 5:30 pm. Follow along with live stats here.
