Softball Suffers Season Opening Loss

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team falls to Smith College in the season opener, 8-0 on Sunday morning.
Key Players:

Freshman Antonia Busa recorded one hit that resulted in a double up the middle and going 1-3 at the plate

Junior Riley Lim-Ellis finished the game going 1-2, getting on base via a pop fly to second

Junior Julia Ruocchio went 1-3 with a single through the left field

Taylor Ang of the Pioneers added three runs providing one hit on 2 appearances at the plate

Cece Alaniz also totaled four RBIs and two hits, going 2-4 on the day
How it happened:

The Pioneers opened the scoring column with a double from Alaniz to center field allowing two runs to score

After a slow second inning for both teams, Smith would again pull ahead in the bottom of the third inning as Lucy Helms would ground out allowing Ang to score

Elinor Washington of the Pioneers would start off the bottom of the sixth inning with a single which would lead to a run scored on an error from SJLI

The Pioneers again would hit a double into center field letting Smith capitalize on the scoring opportunity, as Ang would single letting the run score

An Alaniz double would lead to another two runs scoring for the Pioneers as a single from Helms would provide Smith with their final run of the game

The Golden Eagles had three total hits compared to the Pioneer's 10

Helms received the while striking out 12 batters in the process
