Women's Basketball Comes Up Short In Home Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's basketball took a 58-45 loss in its home-opening contest to the City College of New York on Tuesday evening.

The defeat puts the Golden Eagles at 0-4 on the season as the Beavers even out at 2-2.

Senior N'Dea Maddox knocked down 10 points with four rebounds and a team-best three assists. Sophomore Lindsey McKenna matched her with 10 points off the bench with seven boards. Senior Alicia Indence and freshman Alyssa Greco pitched in with eight points and seven and six rebounds, respectively.

The Beavers were led by a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds from Ashley Brooks. Crystal Blair provided a double-double of her own of 10 points and 10 boards. Emily Arias rounded out the top scorers with 12 points.

CCNY doubled up on the Golden Eagles in the first half taking a 31-16 lead into the break. SJC matched the visitors, 13-13, in the third quarter, but still trailed 44-29 heading into the fourth. Despite outscoring the Beavers 16-14 in the final frame, the Golden Eagles fell short 58-45.

CCNY held a slight 35.4%-25.0% advantage from the floor and 21.2%-15.0% from three-point range. The Beavers outrebounded SJC 51-41 and posted a 26-16 margin in the paint.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 24 when they travel to face John Jay College at 1:00 pm.
