Indoor Track and Field Has Strong Showing at Bill Ward Invitational

South Huntington, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's and women's indoor track and field team kicked off its 2016-17 season at the Bill Ward Invitational at St. Anthony's HS on Thursday afternoon.

In her collegiate debut freshman Mikayla Kowalevich broke the program record for the 60-meter high hurdles with a 10.85 mark.

Erin MacDonell earned a fourth place finish in the 3000-meter with an 11:06.75 time.

Jessica Pierno placed fourth in the triple jump with a 10.05 meters leap and also finished sixth in the long jump with a 4.54 meter jump.

On the men's side, Brian Frejka competed in the 200 meter for SJC earning an eighth-place 24.29 time.

Anthony Figorito made his collegiate debut with a fourth-place finish at the 500-meter relay with a 1:10.98 time.

Cross country's All-ECAC selection Tim Monahan had an impressive showing in the mile, earning a second-place 4:41.17 time, classmate Nick DeLuca had a sixth place showing with a time of 5:08.16.

Daniel Antonawich finished the 60-meter high hurdles with a 9.67 time which was good enough for sixth place.

In the first heat of the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Mike O'Shea, Figorito, Frejka, and Antonawich finished in first crossing the line in 3:38.14 minutes.

Kyle Gardner, Calvin Francis, Chris Corrao, and Monahan completed the 4x400 meter and placed eighth with a 4:10.24 time.

Rob Sarno–making his collegiate debut–finished in sixth place in the long jump and high jump, jumping to a 5.61 and 1.65 meter distances, respectively.

Joseph Wetzel placed sixth in the shot put (9.29 m) and in the weight throw (8.81). Corrrao would place behind Wetzel in the shot put with a 8.42 meter toss. 

The Golden Eagles return to the track on Friday, January 6 at the Wagner Invitational which will be held at the Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Complex at 2:00 PM.
