Brooklyn, NY| Junior Andy Laurent scored his 1,000th point as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team dominated St. Joseph's College (Brkln) to earn an 89-61 victory at the Hill Center on Thursday evening. With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 4-8 (3-4 Skyline) on the year as the Bears fall to 6-6 (4-5 Skyline).

Senior Dominique Spann's three-pointer opened the scoring 45 seconds into the game, and later Laurent's layup would give the Golden Eagles an early six-point lead (11-5) at 15:30. A 15-10 run by the Bears, capped off by a Christian Giles three-ball, drew the hosts back within one point (10-12) at 11:16, but Long Island countered with a 10-0 run of its own to build a 31-20 advantage.

Laurent's 1,000th point came with 5:43 remaining in the half when he finished off a layup to restore the Golden Eagles' 10-point lead (33-22). Long Island would capture 12 of the half's final 18 points to enter the break up 45-28.

At 15:55 of the second frame, Long Island established a 20-point lead (53-32) following a Stephen Cohen three-pointer, and over the course of the next 10 minutes the two sides essentially went point-for-point. The Golden Eagles would expand their lead to 24 points (81-57) at 3:56, courtesy of a Laurent jumper, before ending the game on a 8-4 run to clinch the 28-point victory (89-61).

Laurent finished with a game-high 28 points on 10-16 shooting and becomes the 12th player in St. Joseph's (L.I.) history to record over 1,000 points as a Golden Eagle. The guard also grabbed a career- and game-best 17 rebounds to notch his second double-double of the season.

Junior Fernando Vazquez contributed 17 points and three assists, and sophomore Isaiah Moore went for 16 points on 7-9 shooting from the field. Laurent, Vazquez, Moore and Spann (12 points) combined for 73 of SJC-LI's 89 points.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, January 9 when they host The Sage Colleges on Alumni Day. The alumni will take to the floor at 11:00 AM inside the Danzi Center with the current women's and men's basketball teams following them at 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM, respectively. Live stats will be available here.
