Glen Head, NY| Despite leading 5-0 at halftime the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was defeated, 9-7, by DeSales University in a non-conference contest at North Shore High School on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 3-3 on the year as the Bulldogs improve to 8-0.
The SJC offense was powered by freshmen Tim McCann and Anthony Passarella, who tallied three goals apiece. Junior Chris Nielsen dished out a game-high three assists.
Sophomore Jesse McKeever scooped up a team-best eight ground balls and freshman keeper Andrew Brust made 17 saves in a full game's worth of action.
The Golden Eagles started strong and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter. After tallies from McCann (10:38) and Passarella (8:49), junior Kyle Levantino scored with five seconds remaining in the quarter.
Two more tallies in the second quarter ensured the guests entered the half up 5-0. DeSales opened the scoring in the third but SJC responded with goals from McCann and Passarella at 8:09 and 7:42.
From there out it was all DeSales as the Bulldogs rallied for eight-straight goals and surged to a 9-7 victory.
In the second half, SJC was outshot by a 28-7 margin and in turn was outshot 48-21 in total. DeSales held an advantage in ground balls (42-30) as well.
