Men’s Lacrosse Storms Past Purchase on Senior Day

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team erased an early 2-0 deficit to capture a 14-6 Senior Day victory over Skyline Conference rival SUNY Purchase at Danzi Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The win ensures the Golden Eagles wrap up their 2019 regular season with a 6-8 overall record and a 3-3 mark in Skyline play. The team will learn its playoff fate in the coming days.

Freshman Anthony Passarella scored four times and dished out four assists for a game-high eight points in the contest. Junior Chris Nielsen scored three goals and added four helpers and graduate student Max Chin went for two goals and two assists.

Freshman keeper Andrew Brust made 11 saves in 47:53 of action and picked up his fourth win of the season.

All four graduating players—Christian Prate, Justin Calandra, Clercy Gaines and Chin—factored in the contest.

Purchase went up 2-0 in the opening moments of the game but the sides entered the second quarter tied at three. SJC then went on to score 11-straight goals and went up 14-3 midway through the fourth.

Purchase posted the contest's final three tallied but eventually succumbed to a 14-6 defeat.

SJC outshot the guests 40-31 in the contest and scooped up 46 ground balls to Purchase's 34.

The hosts won 18 of 24 faceoffs on the evening. Tom Ekstrom won nine of 10.

The Golden Eagles can qualify for Skyline Conference playoffs for the first time in program history if results elsewhere are favorable.
