Men Lacrosse Defeated by USMMA on Saturday

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was defeated, 14-6, by the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in a Skyline Conference contest in Kings Point, NY on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 3-7 overall on the year and 0-2 in Skyline play as the Mariners improve to 7-3 (2-0 Skyline).

Junior Chris Nielsen led SJC with a team-best three points on one goal and two assists. Sophomore Mike McCarthy tallied twice.

Freshman Joe Wickel and junior Declan Canevari scooped up five and four ground balls, respectively.

Freshman Andrew Brust (1-5) made 10 saves and took the loss in goal. Kyle Linsalata made eight saves and allowed three goals in the fourth quarter.

USMMA took a 2-1 lead in the first quarter and expanded its lead to four goals (7-3) at the break. SJC scored twice in the third but was outscored 4-2 (11-5) and eventually succumbed to a 14-6 loss.

St. Joseph's struggled to generate offense and was outshot 56-28 in the contest. USMMA won 18 of 23 faceoffs as well.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 10 when they visit the College of Mount St. Vincent for a Skyline Conference contest at 4:30 pm.
