Maritime Hands Men’s Lacrosse 17-7 Defeat

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team was defeated 17-7 by SUNY Maritime in a Skyline Conference contest at Danzi Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 4-8 overall on the year and 1-3 in Skyline play as the Privateers improve to 9-3 (4-0 Skyline).

Sophomore Mike McCarthy led the Golden Eagles with two goals and one assist for three points in the contest. Freshman Matt Trautman tallied twice on three shots.

Junior Chris Nielsen went for a goal and an assist, and sophomore Jesse McKeever scooped up a team-high seven ground balls.

Keeper Andrew Brust made six first-half saves in a losing effort. Kyle Linsalata played the second half and was credited with nine saves.

Maritime scored 18 seconds into the game and a fought off an early 1-1 tie before leading for the remainder of the contest. Down 12-3 at the break, SJC scored two goals early in the third but eventually dropped a 17-7 decision.

SJC struggled on faceoffs and lost 22 of 28 in total. Maritime also held an edge in total shots, 51-28.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, April 18 when they host Mount St. Mary College for a Skyline Conference contest at 5:30 pm.
