Men’s Tennis Tops Lehman in Season Opener

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's tennis team picked up a 9-0 victory over non-conference rival Lehman College in its season-opener at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The win ensures the Golden Eagles start the season with a 1-0 record as the Lightning slips to 0-4.

SJC swept the doubles matches, 8-1 at first doubles and 8-0 at second and third. The pairing of sophomore Ryan Freeley and senior Kyle Conway teamed up at first doubles.

Freshman William Vita picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles and set up sophomore Kenneth Pettersen to clinch victory for SJC with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth singles.

Freeley (first), freshman Nick Bongirono (second), Conway (third) and sophomore Dylan Trude (fifth) also picked up singles victories.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 27 when they host the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a Skyline Conference contest at 5:00 pm.
