Softball Crusies to Two Wins Over Sarah Lawrence

Bronxville, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's Lady Golden Eagles (13-11, 7-2 Skyline) slugged their way past Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence (0-18, 0-8) in a doubleheader matchup, as each game didn't make it past the fifth inning, with SJC winning 10-0 and 13-3 on Sunday.

Game one's victory was headed by Golden Eagle pitcher Sandra Foster (East Meadow, N.Y./ East Meadow) (1-1), who neared a perfect game allowing only one hit while recording nine strikeouts for the shutout.

Infielder Lindsey Corriss (Sayville, N.Y./ St. Anthony's) helped Foster achieve the win, by connecting on two hits, two runs, and three RBI. Corriss' RBI came on a second inning double that brought home Madeline Sganga (East Quogue, N.Y./ West Hampton), Nicole Reda (St. James, N.Y./ Our Lady of Mercy), and Tara Bernocco (Islip, N.Y./ Islip).

St. Joseph's was able to finish off the Gryphon's early, tallying five more runs in the second for the 10-0 lead.

In the second game, catcher Kristen Arbiter (Seaford, N.Y./ MacArthur) and third baseman Nicole Pitta (Massapequa, N.Y./ Massapequa) were hot at the plate, as both players recorded two runs and three hits each, with Arbiter scoring a game-high five RBI, while Pitta tallied three.  Arbiter knocked a grand slam homer in the fifth inning to give her team a 13-1 advantage.

Golden Eagle pitcher Ashley Blydenburgh (Middle Island, N.Y./ Longwood) was able to pick up the mercy rule shortened win over the Gryphons, despite after allowing three runs.  Blydenburgh racked up three strikeouts on the day to achieve her first victory of the season.

SJC will stay on the road for their next battle, as they prepare to face-off against Skyline rival Farmingdale State (12-8, 5-1 Skyline) in a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
