CMSV Dolphins Splash Past Softball in Key Skyline Game

Patchogue, N.Y. – St. Joseph's (16-14, 9-3 SKY) and Mt. St. Vincent (13-17, 9-3 SKY) stand tied for second place in the Skyline Conference following the Dolphins 4-2 victory Friday evening.  In what was a makeup from a rained out second game of a doubleheader, the result leaves the two squads behind the first place Mt. St. Mary Knights, who the Golden Eagles will play tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex.

CMSV got on the board first as they strung together a double and two singles to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.  St. Joseph's roared back with a two-out rally in the bottom of the fourth with three straight singles including an RBI variety off the bat of Nicole Reda.  After Reda's hit, the Dolphins catcher threw wildly to third base to get an advancing Melanie Boccio, but Boccio scored the second run of the inning instead as the ball trickled away.

In the top of the sixth, the Dolphins put two on the bases with a hit by pitch, walk and then converted an RBI single to even the score 2-2.  With the bases loaded and none out, pitcher Mallory McClafferty got an out on a fielder's choice at home and another on a strikeout swinging.  However, the visitors weren't done as they came through with an RBI single to left for the third run and an infield hit that brought home their fourth run.

SJC starter McCalfferty (6-4) suffered the loss as she allowed four earned runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out six.  The Golden Eagle offense was limited to six hits by the Dolphins' Mackenzie Heizer (8-5) who struck out nine.  Nicole Reda was the lone Eagle with two hits (2-for-3) and an RBI.
