Lady Eagles Fly Past NYU-Poly with Ease

Patchogue, N.Y. — The Lady Golden Eagles (10-5, 4-2 SKY) were certainly in control of their match against the NYU Polytechnic Blue Jays (2-9, 0-5 SKY) from the very first whistle.  The home team took the 5-0 shutout with ease, enhancing their Skyline Conference record to 4-2.

Gina Guardino (Lindenhurst, N.Y./ Lindenhurst) set the tone early as she found the back of the net a little over a minute into the first half, off of an assist from Ashley George (Bay Shore, N.Y./ Islip). About seven minutes later, George was in a scoring position herself.  Using her speed, she blew past all three of her pursuers in a breakaway and increased the Eagles' lead to two.

Emily Garcia (Central Islip, N.Y./ St. John the Baptist) scored at 11:35 after her well-placed kick deflected off of the Blue Jays' keeper and into the goal. Guardino scored once more at 20:34 after a cross into the box from Teddi Petre (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./ Connetquot), putting the Eagles in an exceptionally comfortable position going into the second half.

Considering the lead, the Lady Eagles worked predominantly on maintaining possession and keeping the ball on the offensive end of the field for the remainder of the game.  Assisted by Cristiana Votta (East Islip, N.Y./ East Islip), Jessica Cordano (Oakdale, N.Y./ Connetquot) rounded off the scoring for the day as her shot sailed expertly over the keeper's hands and into the net from several yards out.

The Golden Eagles will host Staten Island on Tuesday and attempt to build upon this positive performance.
