New York, NY| Despite a 26-point performance from senior Fernando Vazquez the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball surrendered a first half lead and fell to Skyline Conference rival Yeshiva University, 82-77, on the road on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss the Golden Eagles slide to 1-5 (1-1 Skyline) on the season as the Maccabees improve to 4-3 (2-0 Skyline).

Yeshiva jumped out to an early 20-8 lead 6:18 into the game but a 19-5 by the Golden Eagles--capped off by a Vazquez layup--put the guests ahead 27-25 with 7:56 to play in the half. SJC would later expand its lead to nine points and took a 41-33 lead into the break.

The hosts brought the game back to within three points (53-50) at 12:37 of the second frame, but St. Joseph's answered with seven of the next 11 points to go back up six points (60-54) at 9:43.

Yeshiva then began to mount its comeback and took a 66-65 lead with 5:34 to play after Judah Cohen drained a three-ball. The Golden Eagles came as close as three points away from tying the game (80-77) with eight seconds to play, but Yeshiva warded off the guests and claimed the 82-77 win.

Vazquez's 26 points were a game-best and came off of 7-11 shooting from the field. Junior Isaiah Moore shot 7-10 and collected a season-best 20 points.

Junior Dan Nappi tallied a career-best 12 points on 5-7 shooting.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, December 8 when they host Misericordia in a non-conference showdown inside the Danzi Center at 7:00 PM. Live stats will be available here.
