Patchogue, NY| Behind strong performances from senior Andy Laurent and junior Isaiah Moore the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball fended off Skyline Conference rival Sarah Lawrence College for a 68-58 victory inside the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 6-13 overall and 5-5 in conference play as the Gryphons slip to 5-13 (1-8 Skyline).

Moore led all players with a game-high 22 points (8-13 FG, 4-6 3FG) in addition to grabbing six rebounds. Laurent tallied 21 points, was credited with four rebounds and dished out four assists.

Senior Fernando Vazquez tallied only seven points but contributed a team-high eight rebounds and a career-high seven assists.

Tight through the early going Sarah Lawrence would tie the game at 13 at 13:22 of the first half courtesy of a BJ Sanders layup, but SJC responded with the next 10 points to take a stranglehold of the game by going up 23-13 at 9:09.

The Gryphons came back to within one point (27-26) with 3:53 remaining in the half but an 11-3 run by the Golden Eagles ensured they would take a nine-point lead (38-29) into the break.

Persistent in the second half the guests cut their deficit to four points (52-48) but it would be the closest they would come to tying the game as Laurent drained consecutive jumpers at 8:39 and 7:58 to re-establish SJC's eight-point lead (56-48) and springboard the Golden Eagles to a 68-58 victory.

SJC was the better shooting team from the field (44.2%-39.3%) and outscored the Gryphons off turnovers (22-18) despite being outscored in the paint (28-18).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 31 when they head up to Newburgh, NY to face Skyline rival Mount St. Mary at 7:00 PM. Live stats will be available here.
