Men’s Basketball Surges to 85-68 Win in Season Opener

Jamaica, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team secured an 85-68 road victory over York College in its 2019-20 season opener on Friday evening.

The win comes in head coach Michael McSloy's first game at the helm of the program and ensures his side starts the season with a win for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign.

The Golden Eagles were powered by senior Frank Basile, who posted a double-double of a game-high 26 points and a team-high 10 rebounds. The guard shot 10-for-18 from the floor and 3-for-9 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Michael Darby and freshman Cristian Pace pitched in with 14 and 13 points, respectively, in their collegiate debuts, and senior Doug Niblock went for nine points and a game-high nine assists.

York was paced by Donald Hartley Jr. and DaQuan Workman, who each scored 12 points apiece.

Pace opened the scoring 55 seconds into the contest with a three-pointer and from there SJC never relinquished the lead. At the half, the guests held a 39-28 advantage and held the hosts at arm's length in the second half to secure a 17-point victory.

SJC led by as many as 19 points and outshot the Cardinals from field (44.7%-41.5%). The guests also outshot York 30-14 off the bench.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, November 15 when they host St. Elizabeth for their home opener at 7:00 pm
