Basile Scores 1,000th Point as Men’s Basketball Falls to Yeshiva

Patchogue, NY| Senior Frank Basile became the 15th player in program history to record 1,000 career points in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team's Skyline Conference opening 96-76 defeat to Yeshiva University inside the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Golden Eagles slip to 3-3 overall on the year and 0-1 in Skyline play as the Maccabees improve to 9-1 overall and a league-leading 5-0 in Skyline action.

Basile tallied a game-high 30 points on 9-for-23 shooting and scored his 1,000th career point in the second half. The guard also went for three rebounds and a team-best four assists.

Also scoring in double digits were senior Doug Niblock (15 points) and freshman Christian Pace (10 points). Niblock shot 6-for-11 from the field while Pace was a 4-for-6 shooter and was credited with three steals.

Sophomore Kevin O'Halloran contributed five points off the bench and sophomore Matthew Lavin shot 2-for-4 and collected seven points.

Yeshiva was led by Gabriel Leifer, who scored 24 points (9-for-13 FG), dished out nine assists and grabbed six rebounds.

SJC starts strong and built an early 17-8 lead 6:23 into the contest when Pace converted a layup, but Yeshiva erased the deficit by the end of the first half and took a 50-31 lead into the break.

The Golden Eagles would come as close as 10 points away from tying, but the Maccabees led by as many as 25 and clinched the 20-point victory in the end.

Yeshiva was lights-out from the floor, shooting 66.7%. The guests also boasted a 65.0% three-point shooting percentage and held a 29-21 edge in rebounds.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, December 28 when they visit Lehman College for the CUNY Coaches vs. Cancer tournament at 4:00 pm.
