Men’s Basketball Drops Skyline Contest at Farmingdale

Farmingdale, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team dropped a 92-83 decision at Farmingdale State in a Skyline Conference contest on Thursday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 5-8 overall and 0-5 in Skyline play as the Rams improve to 7-7 and 3-2.

Senior Frank Basile led all scorers with 32 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field. The guard pulled down six rebounds, was credited with six steals and sank eight three-pointers in the contest.

Senior Jonah Caldwell was a 5-for-7 shooter and posted 14 points and five rebounds. Senior Doug Niblock went for nine points and a game-best eight assists, and sophomore Brian Dellecave came off the bench, shot 2-for-2 from three and contributed nine points.

Leading the way for the Rams was Ryan Kennedy, who shot 8-for-11 and scored a team-high 23 points.

SJC scored the game's first points but the Rams went ahead shortly after and built a 53-37 advantage at the break.

The Golden Eagles would go on to outscore Farmingdale 46-39 in the second half and even cut the deficit to five points (68-63) midway through the period, but their comeback would fall short and result in a 92-83 defeat.

St. Joseph's limited Farmingdale to 46 shots on the evening but the Rams converted at a 56.5% rate. SJC held edges in fastbreak points (21-13) and points off turnovers (27-16) but ultimately paid for affording Farmingdale 43 attempts from the charity stripe.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, January 22 when they host the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy for a Skyline Conference contest at 7:30 pm.
