Men’s Basketball Drops 72-63 Decision at Maritime

Throggs Neck, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team dropped a 72-63 decision at SUNY Maritime in a Skyline Conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 5-10 overall on the year and 0-7 in Skyline play as the Privateers improve to 6-10 and 2-5.

Senior Frank Basile scored a game-high 24 points on 8-for-22 shooting and pulled down a career-best 18 rebounds. The guard was also credited with three assists. 

Senior Doug Niblock went for 16 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and senior Brad Weiss tallied seven points and pulled down six rebounds.

Maritime was powered by Brendan McGovern, who scored 19 points on 6-for-14 shooting from the field.

St. Joseph's led by as many as 13 points in the first half (23-10), but in the final eight minutes the hosts went on a 17-5 run and cut the deficit to one point (28-27) at the break.

In the second, Maritime took a 29-28 lead 37 seconds into the period and played ahead for the remainder of regulation. SJC brought the game back to within five points with 2:05 to play (62-57), but fell, 72-63, in the end.

Despite the loss, SJC outrebounded Maritime 45-44 and tallied 18 second-chance points to the Privateers' nine. 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, January 28 when they visit Manhattanville College for a Skyline Conference contest at 8:00 pm.
