Men's Basketball Outpaces Paterson on Saturday

Wayne, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team secured a 63-52 non-conference road victory on Saturday afternoon when they knocked off William Paterson University.

The win sees the Golden Eagles improve to 5-4 overall on the season, matching their overall win totals in each of the past two campaigns. The Pioneers slip to 6-6 on the year.

SJC was led by senior Frank Basile, who, in addition to playing all 40 minutes of the contest, scored a game-high 22 points and added six rebounds and four assists.

Senior Jonah Caldwell was a 5-for-7 shooter from the field and tallied 12 points, while senior Doug Niblock contributed 10 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Freshman Christian Pace came off the bench to score seven points and pulled down three rebounds.

Headlining the Pioneer's offense was Anthony Uribe, who tallied a team-best 10 points.

In a game that featured eight lead changes, SJC found its footing late in the first half when, after taking a 19-17 lead with 4:11 to play, the guests put together a 10-4 run and entered the break up eight points (29-21).

Paterson would come as close as one point away from tying the game 3:53 into the second but SJC outpaced the hosts, fended off a late-game threat and secured an 11-point victory.

St. Joseph's shot 42.0% from the floor while limiting the Pioneers to a 37.5% shooting percentage. SJC outrebounded WPU 37-34 despite being outscored 32-24 in the paint.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, January 8 when they visit SUNY Old Westbury for a Skyline Conference contest at 6:00 pm.
