Hickey Powers Men’s Lacrosse Past Purchase

Purchase, NY| Junior Casey Hickey had a hand in 11 goals as the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's lacrosse team breezed past SUNY Purchase in a Skyline Conference showdown in Purchase, NY on Friday night.

With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 5-5 (2-4 Skyline) on the year as the Panthers remain winless (0-7, 0-5 Skyline).

Hickey would find the back of the net five times in addition to dishing out six assists in the contest. Senior Josh Shaw collected five goals and three assists, and freshman Chris Nielsen and senior Scott Reece both recorded hat tricks.

Keeper Andrew Yoli recorded seven saves on 13 shots to earn his fifth victory of the season.

Purchase would get on the board first when Dylan Gethicker beat Yoli 2:46 at 12:14, but Hickey's tally less than 30 seconds later knotted the game up at one and kickstarted a 5-0 run through the end of the period that saw SJC take a 5-1 lead into the second.

Gethicker's man-up tally at 10:36 of the second brought one back for the hosts but it was met with a 6-1 run--which featured pairs of goals from both Hickey and Shaw--by St. Joseph's that ensured the guests entered halftime with an 11-3 advantage.

The Golden Eagles won the third quarter 4-2 but were outpaced, 3-2, in the fourth, but by then it was a 17-8 lead that SJC rode into the final buzzer.

St. Joseph's held edges in nearly every statistical category, including shots (42-28), faceoffs (15-12) and ground balls (30-26), in a contest that saw them operate a man down seven times.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, April 12 when they visit the College of Mount St. Vincent in a Skyline Conference tilt at 4:00 pm. Live video and stats for the game will be available here.
