Early Pair of Scores Leads Men's Soccer to Win Against Baruch

Patchogue, N.Y. — The Golden Eagles ((3-4) defeated the Baruch Bearcats (3-3) handily, achieving a 2-0 win despite heavy rain that began early in the first half and lasted for the rest of the match.

As if in deliberate revolt against the literal atmospheric dampness, the Eagles were on fire from the starting whistle. At only 16:02 Andrew Stasiewicz (Mount Sinai, N.Y./ Mount Sinai) found the back of the net, assisted by Cody Kull (Manorville, N.Y./ Eastport-South Manor) and Chance Casey (Babylon, N.Y./ Babylon).

Following Stasiewicz's lead, Casey logged a point of his own, converting a rebounded shot into SJC's second and final goal of the game a little over a minute later, at 17:39.

The Bearcats refused to give up the win without a fight, firing off 11 shots on goal before the final buzzer, but SJC keeper Avery Gomez (Bay Shore, N.Y./ Bay Shore) deflected every one.

The Eagles will host the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference match.
