Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to NJCU

Patchogue, NY| A total of 10 Golden Eagles made their debuts in the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team's 1-0 season-opening defeat to New Jersey City University (3-0-0) at Danzi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Senior keeper Tyler Flaherty made eight saves in the contest, conceding once via a penalty in the 48th minute.

St. Joseph's forced NJCU's Nick Linebaugh to make three saves in a contest that saw them outshot 15-5.

Among the SJC debutantes were senior forward Anthony Guzzone--a transfer from Purchase--and sophomore midfielder James Dacos, who both recorded shots on goal in the loss.

Senior forward Kyle Plate had a team-best three shots.

A stalemate until the 48th minute, NJCU posted the match's only tally when Thiago Duarte converted on a penalty.

The Gothic Knights held a 5-3 edge in corners in the match.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, September 8 when they host Drew University for a non-conference contest at 7:00 pm.
