Men’s Soccer Drops OT Result at Maritime

Throggs Neck, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's soccer team was defeated, 2-1, in overtime at SUNY Maritime on Friday evening.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 2-4-1 overall on the year and 1-3-1 in Skyline Conference play as the Privateers improve to 4-4-0 and 1-2-0.

Maritime's Frank Schmidt opened the scoring in the 35th minute when his attempt hit the crossbar and went in.

Freshman Vincent Mariani brought the match level for SJC in the 71st minute. An impressive individual effort saw the forward storm down the left side before beating the Maritime keeper 1-v-1.

Schmidt found the winner with his second goal of the evening in the 95th minute. He took a half volley six yards out and beat SJC keeper Tyler Flaherty from the left.

Flaherty was busy for the Golden Eagles, making seven saves in a match that saw his side outshot 27-10. The Privateers also maintained a steep edge in corner kicks (11-4).

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, October 6, when they host Western Connecticut State for a non-conference contest at 7:00 pm.
