Men’s Volleyball Splits Pair of Non-Conference Matches

Utica, NY| After dropping a tight 3-2 decision to Arcadia University the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team (7-7) bounced back for a 3-0 sweep of Wilkes University on the campus of SUNY-Poly on Saturday afternoon.

Arcadia 3, SJC 2

Down 2-1 in the match the Golden Eagles earned a 25-19 victory in the fourth set to force a fifth deciding frame, but were edged 21-19.

Freshman Will Flohr was credited with a team-high 14 kills and collected 16 digs. Fellow classman Matthew Amberge went for 10 kills.

Junior Tyler Jones dished out a career-best 45 assists, and Michael Barfield had a game-best 24 digs.

SJC 3, Wilkes 0

After dominating the first-set en route to a 25-11 victory, SJC earned a pair of 25-20 wins to complete a sweep of Wilkes.

Leading the way for SJC again was Flohr, whose seven kills matched a game-high. Freshmen Paul Curaro and David Slager were credited with six kills apiece.

Jones' 23 assists were a game-high.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, March 1 when they visit Brooklyn, NY to face non-conference rival Medgar Evers at 7:00 pm.
