Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Sage for 8th-Straight Victory

Albany, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's volleyball team extended its winning streak to eight games on Tuesday evening with a 3-0 sweep of Skyline Conference rival Sage in Albany, NY.

With the win the Golden Eagles improve to 14-7 on the year and remain unbeaten in Skyline Conference play (3-0) as the Gators slide to 10-11 (0-1 Skyline).

A balanced SJC attack produce a total of 32 kills and was led by freshman Will Flohr, who recorded a game-high eight kills. Fellow freshmen Paul Curaro and Matthew Amberge contributed seven and six kills, respectively, with the former leading all players with eight service aces.

Junior Tyler Jones dished out a game-best 26 assists and collected five digs.

Up 15-4 in the first set, SJC used a 7-0 run to bury the hosts en route to a convincing 25-7 victory. A 6-0 run with the score at 8-6 in the second saw the Golden Eagles build a 14-6 lead before cruising to a 10-point win (25-15) in the second, and overpowering start in the third (10-1) saw SJC off to a 25-14 third set and 3-0 match victory.

St. Joseph's hit .383 on the evening compared to Sage's woeful .028 and also held advantages in digs (20-14) and aces (14-1).

The Golden Eagles return to action this Saturday, March 26, when they travel to Kean University for a Skyline Conference tri-match with Ramapo College and the Cougars at 2:00 and 4:00 pm. Live stats and video will be available here.
