Three Eagles Earn 2012 All-Skyline Volleyball Honors

(Press Release from the Skyline Conference)

New York, NY – Mount Saint Mary senior Lauren Halverson has been named the Skyline Women's Volleyball Player of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's ten head coaches.

The Skyline coaches also selected Ashleigh Scozzari of Mount Saint Vincent as the 2012 Rookie of the Year and Sandy Augstein-Collins of Sage as Coach of the Year. In addition, Yeshiva received the Team Sportsmanship Award.

Halverson led the conference with a program-best 969 assists and finished second in the league in service aces (0.74 per game) while leading MSMC to a school-record 23 wins and its first-ever Skyline Championship.  A three-time Player of the Week selection in 2012, the Patchogue, N.Y., native averaged 3.0 digs per game and added 104 kills.

Scozzari led the league in blocks (0.68 per game) and finished eighth in both points (2.95 per game) and kills (2.37 per game).  Named the Skyline Rookie of the Week on Sept. 17, Scozzari (232 kills) registered double-digit kills in 13 of the Dolphins' 28 matches and became the first CMSV student-athlete to surpass 200 kills in a season since 2007.

Joining Scozzari on the All-Conference first team are teammates Joanie Cooney and Helen Putriment of Sage; Farmingdale State's Sarah Palladino; Jen Gries and Mary Ann Raftery of Mount Saint Mary; and Corey Loupee of NYU-Poly.

The second-team All-Conference includes teammates Heather Ferchland, Melissa Garibaldi and Ashley Larrea of St. Joseph's-L.I.; Farmingdale State's Holly Sahner; Shelby Burns of NYU-Poly; Yeshiva's Shira Genauer; and Morgan Robinson of Sage.

In her second season at Sage, Augstein-Collins led the Gators to their first 20-win campaign since 2008 and a berth in the 2012 ECAC Upstate Championship.  Sage (20-13) posted an 8-1 mark in league play and advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 Skyline Championship after earning the No. 2 overall seed.  Augstein-Collins is a 1987 graduate of Russell Sage College.
