Cross Country Races at NJIT Highlander Challenge

October 7, 2023 – Newark, NJ
The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's and women's cross country teams competed at the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlander XC Challenge on Saturday afternoon.
Top performers

Graduate student Matt Lopez was SJLI's top finisher and turned in a time of 25:36.5 for an overall third-place finish out of 234 finishers

Freshman Ryan Steinberg finished 33rd overall in the 8k race with a time of 27:25.2

Sophomore Jimmy Mintel rounded out the top three with a time of 23:23.8

The women's top finisher was senior Marissa Degni who placed 12th overall out of 220 finishers with a time of 19:29.8

Junior Gianna Dickson came in 21st and turned in a time of 19:47.3
How it happened

The men finished ninth out of 29 as a team with 272 points. The Golden Eagles were the top Skyline Conference team beating our Farmingdale St., Manhattanville, and SUNY Old Westbury

SJLI finished behind four Division I teams and three Division II teams with hosts TCNJ the lone Division III team to come in ahead of the Golden Eagles
