Men’s Basketball Cruises Past Hunter on Wednesday

New York, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team surged to an 82-49 road victory over Hunter College in a non-conference contest in Manhattan on Wednesday evening.

The win sees the Golden Eagles move to 2-1 on the year as the Hawks drop to 0-4.

SJC was led by seniors Frank Basile and Doug Niblock, who both scored game-high point totals of 17. Basile went 6-for-15 from the field with a game-high nine rebounds and three assists and Niblock shot 7-for-11 from the floor with three assists and three steals.

Sophomore Matthew Lavin went for 11 points on 4-for-6 shooting and senior Prabnoor Singh tallied a career-best 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting off the bench. 

Hunter scored only one player in double-digits: George Keener who was 3-for-8 from the field.

Basile opened the scoring with a three-pointer 13 seconds into the game and from there SJC never relinquished the lead. After leading by 11 at the half (34-23), the guests went on to outscore the Hawks 48-26 in the second and cruised to an impressive 33-point victory. 

St. Joseph's shot 49.2% from the field and held the Hawks to 26.2% overall shooting. SJC also held advantages in three-point shooting percentage (43.5-12.5), total rebounds (47-36), points in the paint (26-22) and bench points (23-17).

The Golden Eagles return to action when they visit John Jay College for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, November 26 at 8:00 pm.
