Men’s Basketball Drops Skyline Contest to Old Westbury

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference contest, 81-56, to SUNY Old Westbury inside the Danzi Center on Saturday afternoon.

The loss sends the Golden Eagles to 5-15 overall on the year as the Panthers improve to 13-8 overall and 9-3 in Skyline play.

SJC was led by sophomore Michael Darby, who tallied a game-best 23 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Senior Doug Niblock scored nine points and dished out three assists, and senior Frank Basile went for seven points, six rebounds and four assists. 

Old Westbury's offense was powered by Pedro Marquez, who came off the bench to score 23 points on 8-for-14 shooting from the field. 

SJC surged to a 14-4 lead 4:02 into the contest, but Old Westbury went on a 34-11 run and took a 38-25 lead into the break. Old Westbury built on its lead in the second and claimed a 25-point victory at the final buzzer. 

St. Joseph's shot 32.8% from the field and led by as many as 10 points in the contest. Old Westbury shot 46.8% and pulled down 44 rebounds to SJC's 33. 

The Golden Eagles return to action on Tuesday, February 11 when they visit the College of Mount St. Vincent for a Skyline Conference contest at 8:00 pm.
