Men’s Basketball Tops Farmingdale on Senior Night

Patchogue, NY| A strong second half saw the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team secure a 73-67 Senior Night victory over Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State inside the Danzi Center on Tuesday evening.

The win is the Golden Eagles' second in as many games and sees them improve to 7-16 overall on the year and 2-13 in conference play as the Rams fall to 12-12 (8-7). 

Senior Frank Basile played all 40 minutes and scored a game-high 28 points (5-for-8 3FG) in his final game inside the Danzi Center. The guard also pulled down five rebounds and dished out three assists.

Senior Doug Niblock tallied 15 points on 6-for-10 shooting and fellow senior Jonah Caldwell went for 14 points and 13 rebounds for his second-straight double-double. 

Sophomore Michael Darby contributed 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Farmingdale was paced by Hunter Schenkel, who shot 7-for-16 from the floor and tallied a team-best 18 points.

After falling behind early, SJC trailed the Rams 32-23 with 2:24 to play in the first half but rallied to score the next nine points to ensure the sides were tied 32-32 at the break.

In the second, St. Joseph's took an early lead when Darby drained a three-pointer (35-32) inside the half's first minute. The Rams would pull back ahead, 53-50, with 9:32 remaining in regulation, but one minute later the Golden Eagles took a 55-53 lead when Basile converted on a three-pointer. From there, SJC kept the guests at arm's length and rode out a six-point victory (73-67).

St. Joseph's was the superior shooting team from the field (48.1%), beyond the arc (47.4%) and at the charity stripe (75.0%). The hosts also held leads in points off turnovers (11-5) and fastbreak points (6-2).

The Golden Eagles wrap up their 2019-20 season on Saturday, February 22 when they visit #17 Yeshiva University for a Skyline Conference contest at 8:30 pm.
