Wesleyan Spoils Golden Eagles Day with Second Half Surge

Patchogue, N.Y. - Despite beginning the contest with an explosive 4-1 start, the St. Joseph's College (1-2) women's lacrosse team eventually tumbled in a close tilt against the tough Wesleyan Cardinals (2-2), 13-11, in a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at Danzi Stadium.

Lady Eagles Caitlynn Webber (Eastport, N.Y./ Eastport South Manor) and Heather Ferchland (Selden, N.Y./ Centereach) paved the way for St. Joseph's, combining for eight of the team's 11 total points. Webber shot with pristine accuracy scoring on all four of her shots for a game-high four goals, while dishing one pass for an assist. Ferchland added three goals of her own, including an unassisted "spin-o-rama" score after wrapping around the crease and breezing a shot past the Cardinal goaltender with 4:25 remaining.

The Webber and Ferchland duo were responsible for the Eagles strong SJC opening scoring drive in the first nine minutes, however, the Cardinal's attackers would go on a shooting spree finding the back of the cage on multiple occasions to overtake the Golden Eagles 6-5 going into halftime.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles surged for a quick 4-0 push over the Cardinals led by two goals from freshman Kristin Carroll (Patchogue, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), along with scores from Webber, and Ela Igedela (Islip, N.Y./ Islip).

Wesleyan soon closed the gap against St. Joseph's, pulling away with a 7-2 run to foil the Lady Eagles.

Golden Eagle goalie Courtney Wickline (Medford, N.Y./ Bellport) totaled seven saves, including four stops in the second.

SJC will return to action this Saturday, hosting a non-conference match-up against the Hartwick Hawks (1-1) at 1:00 p.m.
