Ferchland Scores 200th as Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Washington College

Chestertown, MD| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team dropped a 14-5 decision to Washington College in a non-conference contest in Chestertown, MD on Thursday evening. With the defeat, the Golden Eagles fall to 2-3 on the season while the Shorewomen improve to 4-3.

Washington came out strong in the first half, tallying five goals in the game's opening 11:00 to build a 5-0 lead. SJC's Nicole Stoppelli drew one back (5-1) for the guests after finishing off a sequence with Kristin Carroll at 11:44, but the Shorewomen responded with the final four goals of the frame to take a 9-1 lead into the break.

Two more tallies for the hosts off the sticks of Cecily Docktor and Katherine Vincent extended the Shorewomen's lead to 10 goals (11-1), but a pair of tallies from Heather Ferchland—the 199th and 200th of her career—and a Kristin Carroll score inched the Golden Eagles back to within seven (11-4).

Carley Kendall and Kristy Grovom of Washington scored the next two goals at 9:41 and 6:40, and SJC's Meaghan Haber netted her eighth goal of the season at 1:52 (13-5). Rachel Shaw tallied the final mark of the game with 30 seconds remaining as the Shorewomen's rolled to the 14-5 victory.

Ferchland's two goals were tops for the Golden Eagles, while Carroll's four shots and Jessica Cordano and Nicole Danisi's four ground balls were also team-highs.

Washington's Kendall and Shaw tallied a game-best three goals apiece.

Lindsay Ramos (2-3) took the loss for SJC, allowing nine goals on 20 shots in the first half. Darrien Diaz played the second half and allowed five goals on 12 shots.

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow, March 24, when they wrap their road trip with a non-conference match vs. Muhlenberg in Allentown, PA at 3:00 PM. Live stats and video will be available here.
