Carroll’s Hat Trick Lifts Women’s Lax to 7-5 Win Over Farmingdale

Patchogue, NY| Sophomore Kristin Carroll scored three times to fire the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) women's lacrosse team to a 7-5 victory over local rival Farmingdale State at Danzi Stadium on Wednesday evening. Both sides entered the game with 3-0 marks in Skyline Conference play, but it was the Golden Eagles who remained perfect and mproved to 8-4 on the year with their sixth-straight victory. The Rams fall to 4-9 on the season with the loss.

SJC got on the board early thanks to senior Jessica Cordano's tally 44 seconds into the game, and junior Tricia Barrett would double the hosts' lead less than a minute later when she converted on a pass from senior Heather Ferchland.

At 19:35, Farmingdale posted their first goal of the evening when Kristen Ranaldo scored from the free position. Carroll would reestablish SJC's two-goal lead 39 seconds later with an unassisted tally, but the advantage was short lived, as Farmingdale's Nicole Ingrassia converted at 18:17.

Ranaldo would strike again with 5:29 to play in the first half to ensure the sides were tied at three at the break.

Like in the first, the Golden Eagles tallied early in the second, this time courtesy of an unassisted mark from Ferchland at 28:48. Carroll scored a pair at 23:24 and 20:57, and sophomore Melanie Cervone potted her fourth of the season at 16:05 to increase SJC's advantage to four goals (7-3), but consecutive goals from Brittany Rosino at 10:49 and 9:48 enabled the Rams to remain within striking distance.

Yet it was the strong defensive unit of seniors Brianna Mascia, Nicole Danisi, Tiffany Willms and junior Kelly Walsh that provided cover for keeper Lindsay Ramos (eight saves on 13 shots) and allowed the Golden Eagles to ride out the final moments and clinch the 7-5 victory.

Ferchland, who scored her team-leading 32nd goal of the season, scooped up three ground balls, and Carroll, who tallied her 20th, 21st and 22nd goals of the year, contributed two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Cordano's four ground balls were a game-high.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, April 23 when they host Mount St. Mary College for a Skyline Conference showdown at 1:00 PM. Live stats for the contest will be available here.
