Women's Lacrosse Holds of Manhattanville, 16-13

Purchase, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team earned a 16-13 non-conference win on the road over Manhattanville College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles improve to 2-1 on the season as the Valiants move to 3-2.

Senior Nicole Stoppelli led all players with eight points on six goals and two assists. The midfielder also had a game-high eight groundballs and seven caused turnovers.

Junior Lauryn Gregson finished with seven points on five goals and two assists with sophomore Tori Staker pitching in with four goals, five groundballs, and three draw controls.

After leading 7-4 through the first half, SJC' Gregson opened the second frame with her third goal of the day. The two sides then traded goals before the Valiants went on a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to one, 9-8.

Back-to-back goals from Stoppelli provided some breathing for the Golden Eagles and after an MC score, SJC scored three straight to pull ahead 14-9. Manhattanville would get to within two, 15-13, with just over five minutes to play, but Gregson capped the scoring with 1:32 on the clock to secure the 16-13 win.

SJC goalkeeper Lindsay Ramos finished her day with 13 save as Manhattanville's Bella Marchiselli recorded 11.

The Golden Eagles return to Danzi Stadium when they host FDU-Florham on Friday, March 22. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
