Women's Lacrosse Starts Skyline Play with 13-3 Win over Purchase

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College women's lacrosse team opened up Skyline Conference play with a 13-3 win over SUNY Purchase on Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles improve to 3-2 on the season with a 1-0 Skyline mark. The Panthers fall to 1-4 overall, 0-1 Skyline.

SJC's Lauryn Gregson had a game-high five points on four goals and an assist. Diana Johnston tallied three goals with six draw controls. Tori Staker finished with one goal with six groundballs and five draw controls.

The Panthers were led by Gabriella Castles with three goals and three groundballs and two draw controls. Maddy Mecca provided Purchase's other goal while scooping up three ground balls.

The Golden Eagles shut out the Panthers 11-0 in the opening frame and went ahead by 12 when Briana Daly scored in the early minutes of the second half.

Castles broke up the shut out when she took a pass from Mecca and found the back of the net.

After a Jamie Benevides goal midway through the half, Mecca converted a free position shot at the seven-minute mark. With less than a minute on the clock, Castles rounded out the scoring with her second goal of the day to bring the game to its final 13-3.

SJC's Lindsay Ramos finished with four saves on the day as Purchase's Brianna Pirozzi recorded six.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 30 when they host Stockton University. Game time is set for 3:00 pm.
