Pierno Sets Two School Records at Molloy College Invitational

South Huntington, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) indoor track and field teams had their best showings of the season at the Molloy College Invitational at St. Anthony's High School on Saturday afternoon.

Ashely Arquer became the first long jumper in Golden Eagle women's indoor track and field history to break the five meter mark. Her jump was recorded at 5.01 meters, and broke a record that was previously set by Amanda Sanacore in 2009. Arquer's jump was good enough for a seventh place finish.   

In the next set of jumps Jessica Pierno cleared Arquer's long jump record after posting a sixth-place 5.06 meter finish. Pierno went for a second record-breaking performance in the triple jump, posting a 10.32-meter mark and a fourth-place finish. The East Patchogue, NY native also placed eighth in the shot put event with a 9.98-meter toss.

Gabrielle Mason matched her personal-best in the pole vault event, clearing 2.90 meters for a second-place finish.

The distance medley relay of Kelly Roberts, Taylor Darby, Samantha Maurice, and Cassandra Costarelli ran a 13.59.48, earning a first place finish.

Kelly Ingarra, Samantha Baculy, Gabrielle Mason, and Gabrielle Cetta earned a fourth-place finish in the 4x200m relay posting a 2.03.89 time.

In the 4x800 meter relay, Roberts, Darby, Pierno and Maurice placed fourth finishing at 10:44.11. Costarelli, Megan Lavery, Abigail Lehr, and Monica Grismer ran the second segment of the event, earning a fifth-best time of 11:32.50.

For the men, Nick DellaPace became the first Golden Eagle to break the 12-meter mark in the weight throw, breaking the school record with a 12.09 meter toss.

The team of John Suchopar, Ryan Haun, Nick Diaz, and Tim Elgort placed third in the 4x800 meter relay with a 8:43.31 finish.

In the distance medley relay, Diaz, Mike O'Shea, Nick Russo, and Haun crossed the finish line at 11:23.53 for a fifth place finish.

In the 4x200 meter relay Brian Frejka, O'Shea, Elgort, and Daniel Antonawich finished the event in sixth marking a 1:37.10 time.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Monday, Feb. 22 at the NJAC Championships. The event will take place at Ocean Breeze Park Track and Field Athletic Complex in Staten Island at 5 PM.
